Trunk or Treat (NABOR + Church): A Night of Candy, Costumes & Community

There’s something about a good Trunk or Treat that just feels right for Southwest Florida.

Not the fancy carnival, not a huge production — just a night where kids run around in costumes, neighbors laugh together, and everyone ends up with way too much candy.

For the last three years, we’ve been part of Trunk or Treat events through NABOR + church, and every time it’s been a blast.

The locations have changed from year to year (we like switching it up and keeping it fresh), but the vibe stays the same:

Good energy.Good people. And the kind of fun you only get when the community actually shows up

👻 What makes Trunk or Treat so fun

If you’ve never been to one, here’s the simple version:

Instead of going door-to-door in the dark, families gather in one safe spot — usually a parking lot or community space — where people park their cars, decorate the trunks, and hand out candy.

It’s Halloween, but more organized.

And honestly? It’s genius.

At the NABOR / church Trunk or Treat, it’s always a full-on family vibe:

🎶 Music playing🍬 Candy everywhere🎁 Little prizes👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families hanging out🎨 Trunks decorated like mini Halloween scenes

And the costumes are always the best part.

You’ll see everything — superheroes, dinosaurs, princesses, scary masks, little babies dressed like pumpkins… the whole thing.

🎨 We’ve done it 3 years… and it keeps getting better

The first year was great.

The second year? Even better.

And by the third year, it felt like a real tradition.

Every year people get more creative with their trunks.More decorations.More themes.More candy.

And it’s always cool seeing how much effort people put in just to make kids smile.

🍭 Why nights like this matter

Here’s the real reason I love events like this:

Kids don’t fake excitement.

So when you see them running around hyped up, showing off their costumes, and yelling “trick or treat!” like it’s the biggest moment of their life…

It just feels good.

Parents get to relax a little.Neighbors get to talk. And everyone walks away with a memory — not just candy.

🏡 And yes… we also throw a big Halloween party at my house every year

And I’ve gotta mention this because it’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the season.

Every year we throw a big Halloween party at my place in San Carlos Park.

🎃 Games🍔 Food🎶 Music👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Friends + family🤝 Neighbors😂 And a lot of laughs

It’s one of those nights where people actually hang out like a real neighborhood.

No awkward vibes. No “just stopping by for 10 minutes.”

People stay. People talk. People enjoy it.

And that’s the kind of thing I love about living here.

🌴 This is the side of Southwest Florida I hope never changes

Southwest Florida is growing fast.

But the best parts of living here have nothing to do with growth.

It’s the community side.

The neighbor side.

The “let’s do something fun together” side.

And Trunk or Treat is one of the best examples of that.

🎃 If you live here, you know…

Trunk or Treat is one of those nights you bring up later like:

“Remember how fun that was?”

The costumes.The candy.The kids.The laughs.

It’s simple, but it sticks.
